Filmed entirely on location at the historic Wethersfield Estate in New York, the film blends ballet, cinema, history, and human storytelling into a completely fresh vision of The Nutcracker.

A New Kind of Nutcracker Film

Unlike traditional Nutcracker movies or stage recordings, The Nutcracker at Wethersfield is a documentary about the creative process behind a groundbreaking reinterpretation of the classic ballet.

It explores:

  • How artists brought a Nutcracker to life during an impossible moment

  • Behind-the-scenes footage of dancers, creators, and musicians

  • The transformation of a historic home into a living ballet world

  • The meaning of holiday tradition, community, and perseverance

This is not a retelling , it is the true story behind a new Nutcracker.

When the world shut down, choreographer Troy Schumacher and the dancers of New York City Ballet dared to dream the impossible during the darkest winter of 2020, bringing dancers back to the stage, audiences into the story, and magic back to Christmas.
